Otmane Kharbouch Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry

About

Laboratory of Engineering, Sustainability and Innovation (IDI), National Higher School of Chemistry (ENSCK), Ibn Tofaïl University.

My work follows one thread: the metal / electrolyte interface. I started by keeping metals from degrading, designing corrosion inhibitors for acid pickling baths, then applied the same command of the interface to the anodes of aluminium-air batteries, and now to hydrogen production by electrolysis.

I defended my Ph.D. on 23 July 2025 with the highest distinction (Très Honorable), and I am an associate member of the IDI laboratory at ENSCK. Each project couples electrochemical experiments, surface analysis (XPS, SEM/EDX, AFM) and computational chemistry (DFT, molecular dynamics).

My hydrogen work is now moving up in scale: alkaline electrolysis optimised with 2D CFD and response-surface methodology, and the techno-economics of a hybrid PV/wind-driven PEM electrolyser at Jorf Lasfar.
